Speciaal voor de eerste generatie PCI Express borden en voor de steeds grotere vraag aan grafische capaciteiten door nieuwe besturingsystemen met een totaal andere interface is de RV370 GPU ontwikkelt uit o.a. de AGP Radeon 9600 series. Microsoft Windows Vista was het eerste besturingsysteem die een Grafische User interface had met Aero, glass effecten en dat waren grote grafische veranderingen in Windows die speciaal met nieuwe apparaatstuur programmas; WDDM Windows Display Driver Model 1.0 de hardware moest aansturen. De grafische kaart moest dan ook 100% DirectX / Direct3D 9.0 compatibel zijn met minimaal Shader Model 2.0 ondersteuning met de verkrijgbaarheid van minimaal een WDDM 1.0 Windows Display Driver Model
Deze GUI / grafische interfaces met WDDM apparaatstuurpgramma ondersteuning zijn ook doorgevoerd en verbeterd in Windows 7, Windows 8.1 en Windows 10 met verbeterde GUI/ Aero interfaces en recentere WDDM Driver modellen. Echter deze generatie GUI is zowel forwards als backwards waarbij de effecten afhankelijk van de versie worden ondersteund
Deze grafische effecten en het uiterlijk in Windows vragen dus ook meer van de videokaart vandaar de X600 destijds is ontwikkeld om meer met minder te kunnen realiseren. Deze kaart is dan geschikt voor de vervanging van onboard grafische adapters waarbij het systeem veel systeembronnen moet aanspreken voor de grafische prestaties.
Deze Radeon X600 Second Edition Hypermemory edition is krachtiger dan men zou verwachten en is dan ook ideaal voor een ouder budgetsysteem. Daar komt nog eens bij dat de X600 SE Hypermemory Edition qua prestaties krachtiger is dan de standaard X600 / X300 Second Edition uitvoeringen als het gaat om grafische processorsnelheid (hogere standaard kloksneheid) en het gebruik van Hypermemory techniek waarbij er naast eigen / local videogeheugen er ook ongebruikt systeemgeheugen kan worden gebruikt indien nodig. Deze techniek is volautomatisch en wordt door hardware gestuurd waaronder de Chipset van het moederbord de GPU en de de CPU. De door Sapphire uitgebrachte systeembouwers onderdeel voor bijvoorbeeld Acer mediacenter sytemen uitvoering heeft de techniek om met minder fysiek geheugen krachtigere prestaties neer te zetten dan soortegelijke uitvoering met meer fusiek geheugen.

Met de Hypermemory techniek in deze videokaart weet de kaart niet gebruikt werkgeheugen in de PC om te zetten naar een maximaal 256MB DDR effectief geheugen voor grafische capaciteiten en acceleratie waardoor de prestaties meer dan goed zijn. Daarbij heeft de X600 Hypermemory editie een hogere rendering output door een snellere GPU. Naast deze eigeschappen word door de HyperZ III techniek efficiënt omgegegaan met de beschikbare geheugenbandwijdte waarrdoor er nog meer prestatie voordeel kan worden behaald Het is zeker geen gamers kaart maar uit diverse beoodelingen blijkt dat de kaart flexibel is voor het overklokken van de GPU en dat zelfs zonder overklokken de X600 series games zoals BattleField 2 (50-60 FPS) aankan op degelijke settings, dat bewijst dat de X600 in de entry level klasse veel kaart voor je geld krijgt en je de kaart dat ook zeker voor online Gaming kan inzetten bij diverse titels
Deze PCI express kaart is voorzien van een grafische architectuur bestaande uit 4 Pixel en 2 Vertex Shader Pipelines en dit maakt het mogelijk om de grafische kaart in te zetten voor de dagelijkse multimedia taken.. Men moet dan denken aan Internet taken w.o. videostreaming, MPEG decode encode, maar ook DVD Playback, standaard fotobewerking. Deze uitvoering is zeker inzetbaar voor basic/ retro (online) gaming met ondersteuning van Shader Model 2.0 en DirectX 9.0. Game titels zoals;Minecraft, Battlefield 2 (2005), GTA San A,Criminial Origins en Crysis Warhead al dan niet met aangepaste lage settings zijn acceptabel te spelen. Deze X600 SE is te vergelijken met de Geforce 6200 series en is dan ook klaar voor het zwaardere werk als het gaat om de weergave van online media en ondersteuning van nieuwere besturingsystemen.
