Pendleton Woolen Mills "Skywalkers" deken
Beschrijving
"A Salute to Native American Steelworkers"The SkyWalkers design was inspired by Art Deco design elements of some of New York City's iconic skyscrapers such as the Chrysler building and the Empire State building.
It is a salute to the skilled Native American steel workers who built some of the city's most beautiful and famous landmarks, including the George Washington Bridge and recently the new One World Trade Center
Many of the workers are from the Kahnawake Reserve near Montreal, where in 1886 the Mohawk tradition of ironworking began. Hired as unskilled laborers to build a bridge over the St.Lawrence river, the Mohawk quickly earned a reputation as top-notch, sure-footed workers on high steel
Beginning in the 1920s these daring men raised and riveted steel at dizzying heights above the city, six generations of Mohawk and other Iroquois "Skywalkers" renowned for their courage and agility, have helped shape the New York City skyline.
