Gainward staat bekend om het leveren van high performance multimedia en gamers kaarten met hoge prestaties. Deze Gainward PRO/450 is voorzien van de Geforce 4 MX-420 Processor en is een entry level GPU geschikt voor random multimedia. Maar deze kleine Rode Gainward zou Gainward niet zijn als deze kaart extra meerwaarde heeft gekregen ten opzicht van de reguliere MX-420, en dan bedoelen we niet de rode kleur van deze kaarten al is dat wel het handelsmerk destijds voor peformance videokaarten van Gainward.
Deze videokaart heeft een GPU die zonder teveel moeite op 285Mhzgeklokt kan worden , maar het grootste verschil zit in het geheugen. Vrijwel alle MX420 zijn voorzien van SDRAM, maar deze videokaart is met het snellere DDR geheugen 1.6ns en dit geheugen,heeft een snelheid normaal 332MHz, maar bij deze Gainward standaard op 406MHz en zoals het model PRO/450 aangeeft is het geheugen geschikt voor overklokken (softwarematig). Deze videokaart is getest door overclockers online en zij weten na de opgegeven standaard 406MHz~en model opgegeven 450MHz DDR de kaart in totaal 100% over te klokken naar snelheden van 500MHz DDR en dat softwarematig met de tools van Gainward ! De kaart is dan nu ook zeker goed in te zetten om onboard grafische adapters van oudere systemen te vervangen of oudere AGP/ AGP PRO kaarten in de Geforce 4 MX4000 MX440 en Radeon 7500 oudere klasse. De kaart heeft een universele AGP interface en past dus in ieder AGP Slot.

Gainward always tries to do something special with their videocards like increasing the default core/memory speed. On this card they coupled the GF4 MX420 with 64MB of 5ns Samsung DDR RAM instead of the SDRAM you'd expect on a GF4 MX420. A second improvement on this card compared to other MX420s is the memory speed which on this card runs at 200MHz (400MHz DDR) whereas most other MX420s only feature 166MHz SDRAM memory. A default core clock of 250MHz and DDR memory running at 400MHz ... doesn't this smell a lot like a GF4 MX440 instead of an MX420? Well, if you look at nothing but the core/memory speeds, then you should say YES. But there's more ... we shouldn't forget that a GeForce4 MX420 has a memory interface of 64bit whereas the other GF4 MXs feature a 128bit memory interface! Please keep this in mind when you're looking at the benchmarks later on in the review ......
