Fun old schoolBack in the day this was a very popular camera. Today it proves to be just as popular in the hands of a film photography enthusiast or hobbyist.
Verified purchase: Yes | Condition: Pre-owned by hiler2006Sep 29, 2011Handy, small, durable rangefinder camera. Great value.
Nice piece of Canon history with a really crisp lens. This is the New Canonet 28, made from 1971 to 1976. Shutter functions without a battery at a default 1/30 sec. Apertures from f/2.8 to f/16. Otherwise, get a battery and switch to "AUTO" to get the most out of this rangefinder camera. Typical Canonet blue and yellow viewfinder which is nice and bright. When I got mine it was a little foggy, but a cleaning was an easy fix. Old cameras like this one could use new seals which are easy to replace, but if you don't trust yourself; get a CLA job by an experienced camera dude. I've gotten some really nice photos out of it. Also try the Canonet QL17 GIII if you prefer a Canonet with manual options. by nowaynotmeDec 06, 2010Canon Canonet
It's so easy to use! recommended for anyone trying to get into film photography! perfect for photography students. The camera is probably the easiest range finder for such a great price. by clkrcacherJul 25, 2010Great Auto, Limited manaul
Personally I love the Canonet 28s. They are great little rangefinders and fit perfectly in a daypack. The only complaint I have is they are very limited with the 1/30 sec shutter speed in manual mode. by luminenApr 06, 2010Canonet 28 film camera
The Canonet is a solidly built rangefinder. But it isn't as smooth in its operation as the Konica or the Minolta Hi-Matics. Of course, its hard to compare a canonet, in my opinion, to the Yashica line. So I won't.
Most of the rangefinders in that era had good lens systems and the canonet is no exception.
