De ATI Radeon 9000 was een mijlpaal voor ATI als het gaat om prestatie gerichte grafische processoren die met gemak voorgaande series of recentere uitvoering met gemak konden benaderen. De Radeon 9000 ontwikeld uit de Radeon 8500 kon de Geforce concurrentie van de Geforce MX series dan ook met gemak aan. Daarnaast was de toevoeging van een Vertex Pipeline ook een zeer groot voordeel in deze entry level en mainstream groep videokaarten van ATI. De Radeon 9000 was de eerste volledige compatible uitvoering voor volledige Direct3D 9 ondersteuning naast 2D GUI Acceleratie. Dit is de HP OEM full profile editie met hogereGPU clock, maar belangrijker een 128-bit memory bus, wat resulteert in een hogere bandwijdte, snelheid/ verwerkingssnelheid van het geheugen. Daarnaast is dit een uitvoering met HDTV, gericht op meer connectiviteit voor TV-out. Naast standaard S-video, is het met de juiste kabel mogelijk dit te upscalen naar Component Video RGB, YpbPr HD Encoded. De VGA is de standaard hoofd aansluiting voor het aansluiten van een analoge LCD monitor/ al dan niet met adapter als het gaat om een Digitale monitor. De Radeon 9000 mag dan de eerste GPU zijn uit deze serie het is zeker niet de zwakste uitvoering. Deze 9000 uitvoering is met betrekking tot de prestaties krachtiger dan Geforce 4 MX modellen met een geheugen bus van 64-bit en 128MB werkgeheugen. Ook is de 9000 series in de basis goed ondersteund met Windows 7, Windows Vista naast Windows XP en andere besturingsystemen.
